Independent Collectors

Sammlung Gräfling

The young couple merges private and public spaces by displaying their collection at their home in a prestigious historic apartment.

“Having started really young as collectors, we want to invite people our own age who havenít had that many encounters with art and for whom we trigger an excitement about the subject.”

With a collection of over 400 works by some of today’s most exciting contemporary artists, as well as having numerous spaces to encourage public engagement with art, Friderich & Johnna Gräfling are not your average collectors. The young Frankfurt-based couple merges private and public spaces by displaying their collection at their home in a prestigious historic apartment in Frankfurt, which also functions as the independent exhibtion space Salon Kennedy. Following an in-depth approach, the collectorsí goal is to accompany the artists careers, which usually results in multiple works and whole bodies of work across the entire career of an artist becoming part of the collection. With the Kunstverein Wiesen e. V., the couple is also actively engaged in making contemporary art acccessible to a larger audience.
