FaceTime! Israel’s largest private art collection, the Igal Ahouvi Art Collection, has opened a new show, “Prima Facie”, in its series of exhibitions held at the Tel Aviv University Art Gallery.
Already on the gallery’s fifth exhibition, “Prima Facie” at The Igal Ahouvi Art Collection seeks to investigate the changing face of portraiture in modern and contemporary art. The diversity of the collection allows for the overall theme to be covered in a wide range of media, such as paintings, drawings, sculptures, photography, installation and video works, covering a time frame from the beginning of the 19th century until the present day. Portraiture has often been a highly discussed and widely popular subject matter. However, the way portraits are being made and understood has evolved drastically over the decades, resulting in works that interpret the subject matter much more freely.
Assembled over the past ten years, the Igal Ahouvi Art Collection draws from a wide range of contemporary artworks, some of which have been included in the exhibition to exemplify and highlight different approaches to portraiture from Israeli and international artist such as Richard Prince, Thomas Ruff, Andy Warhol, Hans-Peter Feldmann, Igael Tumarkin, Michael Gross, Chuck Close, and Luc Tuymans to name but a few.
